Fogging

What is Fogging?
Fogging is a pest control and disinfection method that involves spraying a fine mist of insecticides, disinfectants, or chemicals into the air to kill insects, bacteria, or viruses. The mist (fog) can penetrate hard-to-reach areas, making it effective for treating large spaces, open areas, and enclosed environments.
How Does Fogging Work?
Preparation
The area is cleared of food, pets, and people.
Windows and ventilation are sealed for maximum effect.
Fogging Process
A fogging machine or ULV (Ultra Low Volume) sprayer releases the chemical in microscopic droplets.
The fog spreads throughout the space, reaching hidden cracks, crevices, and airspaces.
Settling & Ventilation
The mist remains in the air for a specific period to eliminate pests or pathogens.
Afterward, the area is ventilated before it is safe to re-enter.
Types of Fogging
Thermal Fogging
Uses heat to create a dense smoke-like fog.
Ideal for outdoor areas (e.g., mosquito control in gardens, parks).
Example: Mosquito fogging in public spaces.
Insecticide Fogging
Targets pests like mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, and bed bugs.
Often used in warehouses, hotels, and residential areas.
Cold Fogging (ULV Fogging)
Uses Ultra Low Volume (ULV) technology to produce a fine mist without heat.
Used for indoor pest control and disinfection (offices, warehouses, hospitals).
Example: Sanitization during COVID-19.
Disinfection Fogging
Kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi in hospitals, offices, and food industries.
Uses biodegradable disinfectants like hydrogen peroxide-based fogs.
Fogging vs. Fumigation
Feature | Fogging | Fumigation |
---|---|---|
Application | Mist/spray | Gas/vapor |
Effectiveness | Surface & air | Deep penetration |
Best for | Insects, bacteria, viruses | Termites, stored product pests |
Residue | Minimal | No residue but requires longer aeration |
Usage Areas | Indoor/outdoor | Sealed spaces |
Advantages of Fogging
-
Covers large areas quickly.
-
Penetrates hard-to-reach places (airborne pathogens, insect hideouts).
-
Fast-acting with minimal downtime.
-
Safer than fumigation (less toxic, no need for complete evacuation).
Is Fogging Right for You?
-
For insect control: If you have mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, or bed bugs.
-
For disinfection: If you need to sanitize homes, offices, hospitals, or factories.
-
Not suitable for termites, deep infestations, or gas-based treatments (fumigation is better).
